The answer is to accept that perfect technique may not be possible at this stage and just play naturally to find your "natural swing". This will remove the negative mental trap of highlighting our faults.

5. Not enough emphasis on "enjoyment"

Most of us play golf to enjoy the game and the company of like-minded people. Even top tour pros need to enjoy playing the game even though they are in a very competitive situation. Enjoyment produces good, positive feelings and energy in the body, and this enhances our ability to perform by making us relax and reducing stress. When you reduce stress you reduce tension in the body and allow the body to move better. This increases coordination, muscle performance, and promotes fluid movement. The result is better golf!

There is a lot of information available on how to improve your golf game and what you need to do. Maybe you have been convinced by advertisers that you really need that $500 driver or those expensive golf balls. If so, have they made a significant improvement with your game?

You have to stop believing in the myths that the big advertisers force down your throat. A great golf game is not only about having a perfect golf swing or using the most technologically advanced golf equipment.

The recreational golfer can sometimes benefit from learning from a good golf swing guide book or by using a specific golf training aid to cure a niggling golf swing fault. At my golf review blog, I have even recommended a few of these guides and products because they can help you with your golf swing. But to get the whole picture of what is needed to dramatically improve, you need to learn the mental game of golf.

Firstly though, in order to dismiss the myths that you can buy a great golf game, let us have a look at the facts:

25% of golfers back in the 1970's managed to break 90 and a smaller number could post scores in the 70's. 30 years have passed and we can now use over-sized drivers with larger and more forgiving sweet spots, wide sole and cavity back irons, and golf balls with 4 piece construction. So, how many golfers can today break 90? Well, from 25%, we have gone all the way up to 28%!

It has been estimated that 90 billion has been spent by the golf equipment industry on new technology and ad spend since the late 70's. So the golf industry should be contented to know that a further 3% of golfers have managed to break 90! Not included in those billions are the huge outlay of capital spent on the development of golf training aids and golf instructional products.

So what is the missing ingredient that can promote the quickest and most lasting change in any golfer's game? The mental game of golf or the inner game of golf is the key to improvement. Interestingly, this is the only area that doesn't cost a penny to use, however hardly anyone uses it.

The mental game is using your brain in a calculated, focused and methodical manner and is the surest method to golf improvement and lower scores. It is in fact a large subject and to understand the mental game of golf you need to gain knowledge of things like:

The winter is approaching and that means less time on the golf course and range. It might even mean no golf at all in your part of the world. Golf's Mental Game May Be the Hardest Part to Master


As a golfer you must certainly be aware that learning the mental game of golf is just as important - if not more important - as learning even something as fundamental as swing basics. Perhaps to a greater extent than with any other sport, conquering golf's mental game is essential to becoming a great golfer. Without conquering this aspect of the game, you can pretty much surrender yourself to mediocrity at best.

Think about the last time you played golf - did you visualize your shot before taking your swing? If not, you are depriving yourself of a very important step. Without visualization, you have no capacity to send your ball in the right direction upon impact.

If you failed to visualize your shot, the chances are pretty high that you did not have a great shot. If this was the case, were you able to rebound after sending your ball in the wrong direction? From the other side, physical games, relaxing stay in good shape and help adults to overcome the stress and tension. It is also an ideal way to lose weight.

Published in the April issue of Neuropsychology of the older musicians, according to a new study, cognitive tests, better performance than individuals who did not play an instrument.

When we finally got the theme of spiritual exercises, took software attack, the prognosis was not good. Despite what the proponents of this software is that it leads to a general increase in mental capacity, failed to show detailed examination of this general effect, and for some subjects, the software has been surpassed by a quiz. Now a new study has revisited the topic, the authors found that some mental exercises, general performance, but only a certain type of exercise, and increase only under a subset of users.

The study builds on a well-established relationship between the general reason and spatial memory. It is not clear what the fundamental mental capacity provides for this capability, but have a number of studies show that the performance demonstrated in tests that stress is working fluid intelligence storage, a test subject, the basic information stored for use, without it is about the long-term memory in context. Although we do not know whether it is possible to improve general reasoning, several studies have shown that it is possible to increase the working memory through the taxation system. These games force the children to what the authors term "n-back" to solve problems. In one example, the children have a pond where a frog appears at random on a number of lilly pads were shown. When the frog disappeared and reappeared, the children would have to remember where it was before. For example, for the third time the frog was found that the children must remember where it was the first time. Continued exposure to these games would have the memory capacity. And on average it has to improve scores over time.

On its own, but this seemed a very limited impact on the performance of children when they were given a test of fluid intelligence, with no statistically significant trend in performance. By this measure, mental exercises had failed.

But it was not, at least not entirely. The authors found that the children who had undergone a training improves their working memory was variable, they share the children trained in high-and low improvement groups and reran the numbers. Now appeared a significant effect: fluid intelligence improvements had occurred in the children who saw the greatest changes in working memory. Their advantage to control their peers (who had played a vocabulary oriented game) remained even after three months, although it shrank a bit during this time. In contrast, after those who saw little improvement in working memory both their peers and trained to control the population.

"In addition, there was a significant positive correlation between the improvement in the training market and improving job [fluid intelligence]," the authors note, "suggesting that the larger gain the education, the greater the transfer."

What drove the difference between the two groups? The authors asked the children how the game was over, and found that both groups considered it pleasant. But those who gave it a boost for a fun challenge, while those who tend to think less improve it much too difficult and frustrating at the end saw of her.
